Health Indicators
Non-weight focused health indicators
As women we have a tendency to wake up in the morning and look at our tummies in the mirror and see how our weight is going today. We do it subconsciously, as if our weight is an indicator of how WE are doing.
But it’s a terrible indicator.
Our weight does not indicate our innate self worth to any degree, whatsoever.
And it doesn’t necessarily indicate our state of health either.
We are also living through a very challenging time where many lives have been disrupted. Perhaps it’s time to redefine what it means to be healthy?
Here are a few different ways to reframe health and wellbeing.
Are you eating any vegetables reguarly? How about green ones?
Have you had some fruit lately?
How well did you sleep last night?
Have you had enough water, tea, coffee, or other drinks to make your pee fairly clear?
Do you enjoy some regular movement? Perhaps taking the dog for a walk, the kids to the park, or a stroll through town in the evening?
Are you checking in on your mental health, and maybe taking some steps to alleviate stress, or a sense of isolation? Or do you need help for depression?
Did you have a conversation with someone today that made you feel at least a bit connected?
Did you notice a flower, a tree, the clouds, the wildflowers along the freeway, the ocean, your dog or goldfish, and in any way appreciate them, sometime lately?
Have you noticed lately what your body can do for you and appreciate it for that? That it can make a cup of tea, it can walk to the fridge, it can see the stars when you put the bins out at night, it can enjoy a hot shower, hug your partner or friend or kids? It does so much for us, every day, yet we forget to appreciate it.
This is the stuff that will contribute more to your health and wellbeing than a number on a scale, or whether you can fit into last year’s jeans.
