Benefits of a Detox

I haven’t always been fond of doing a deliberate detox or cleanse, because I do not thrive on low calories and sprouts, and I do not fast well. I am a hearty eater- but I like to eat well. So when I did a Medical Medium liver cleanse earlier this year, I was surprised to find I could easily do it and I enjoyed it and felt it had great benefit.

Does the body detox normally anyway? Yes of course, it is built to. The lungs, skin, bowels, liver kidneys, lymphatic system, are built to get rid of a build up of toxins just from normal bodily functioning. But looking at the state of many people’s health, their bodies are struggling under the load of toxins (environmental, in food, and also what the body itself produces), lack of exercise and poor food choices, not to mention stress. The body loves to get a break from all that and be given a chance to offload toxins.

Why Spring? Because traditionally people have eaten heavier and saltier foods over the winter months, often preserved- which is natural. And in spring, the plants spring to life and leafy greens are abundant. In some cultures, fasting was regular in spring because the winter food would have run out and the spring food not yet in abundance. But in many cultures, depending on where they are located, it is time for leafy greens, shoots, berries and other plants to burst forth, and these plants are a welcome change from the heavier winter foods, and also help the body transition to the warmer months.

Detoxing is all about the liver. The liver is the organ that processes toxins in the body, and in modern life, even on a moderately good diet, it can easily get overloaded. Fatty liver is becoming common even in people who dont drink alcohol to excess or at all. High fat diets are popular, and this puts a burden on the liver. The liver loves leafy greens, fresh foods, cruciferous vegetables, many herbs, and fruit.

The whole body is also involved. The kidneys can benefit from extra attention with lots of hydration, as can every cell in the body. The lymphatic system can benefit from being flushed and a break from dairy, which tends to clog it up. The lungs love some deep breathing exercises. The brain even loves a good detox as it can get sluggish and clogged up with debris, including heavy metals.

In fact heavy metals are everywhere and most people have them in side their bodies, and they can cause havoc. Appropriate detox protocols can help to move these out of the body.

Detoxing helps us feel lighter, more bouyant.

I invite you to a supported 2 weeks of a Spring Cleanse in the first two weeks of October. You are welcome to engage at any level that suits you. I have created Guides in the group for you to refer to, and I will be engaging in the discussion and supporting you in whatever way I can. If you are new to doing a detox, I can suggest ways that will help you transition. If you have done them before, I can support you to find new and inspired ways to support yourself.
